Can This Be True?
"... For the week of the broadcast network upfront presentations, Bolt Media hopes this stat delivers a bullet to TV: Only one in four 12- to 34-year-olds can name all four major broadcast networks: ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox. Teens may not be able to name the big four, but they know MTV, Cartoon Network and Comedy Central...."
Can this be true? Only one in four can name the major networks?
It's no secret that broadcast television has been losing viewers over the years, but it appears rather than a slow leak, the losses are now at flood stage.
How hard can it be to name ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox? Are the traditional networks so out of touch that young people just don't care?
And what about local TV? Its clear from studies that young people aren't watching much local tv and for those of us in local news that is not a good thing.
In a few years, there won't be enough viewers to keep all the stations' newsrooms running. Fewer newsrooms mean less competition. Less competition doesn't make for great journalism. Competition does.
Boy, do I feel old.

I don't watch tv news very much...I think most people probably check the headlines on the internet and unless there's something major going on that's enough...As I 'm from the Nashville area originally, I don't care much about the local news here with a few exceptions...Frankly the local tv stations seem very unascertive..for example, they don't seem to get very much out of the Sheriff's department and back during the Phil Keith era in the KPD they didn't question the unnecessary killings of young African -American men that were taking place....I feel they are too often afraid to challenge the status quo....and that goes for your station as well Gene...sorry....

Hey Lone, didn't you get your picture in the paper at the Mexican gathering a few weeks ago?
Also, just which UNNECESSARY killings of YOUNG African men were you talking about?
Sorry WJ but that wasn't
Sorry WJ but that wasn't me.If that was meant to be some kind of racist knock it doesn't help you any.
I believe that one of the responsibilities of the local media is to expose corruption, racism and other forms of injustice and wrong doing in our public institutions. In my view the killings of African-Americans, such as the one at the Summit-Hills Weigels, was unnecessary and should have been reckless homicide. The killing of Andre Stinson was also unjustifiable homicide. I am glad Phil Keith is no longer KPD chief and I believe Chief Owen is doing a good job in correcting the mistakes of the past. But the local media did not do its job in scrutinizing those cases.I have a poor opinion of the local media. The media in Nashville is doing a much better job of scrutinizing the institutions there and exposing corruption and wrong doing than the media does here. The local media may be afraid of angering those institutions and losing their cooperation in writing its stories but fear of a lack of cooperation should not deter the media from doing its job..
I'll give a couple of
I'll give a couple of reasons why the younger group doesn't know about broadcast tv.
First, a few years back, local network affiliates thought it was necessary for a sixth day of morning news. Saturday mornings, which when I was growing up (I'm 25 now) were supposed to be for kids and cartoons have been ruined because news is on until 8 or 9 in the morning and kids lose interest in that. Of course they know more about Cartoon Network and other cable stations because the local stations aren't appealing to them.
Second, I only left Knoxville a couple of years ago and spent 6 years in college there. When I didn't have cable, I had to hear how ONLY one station or another was FIRST to bring a story. To me, that seemed arrogant and it turned me off local television news. I went to the internet for my news. I don't care who is FIRST to bring a story to me, just give me the story with all of the facts and if the reporters are doing their job right, then the details should all be there and make the news reputable. If stuff is left out, then it is up to the station to correct the story.
That's my nickel opinion on the subject.
My son, who fits into the
My son, who fits into the target group, when ask if he heard about a certain news event ask: Was it on ESPN? The response was somewhat of a joke, but much truth is sometimes spoken in jest.

LOL, if you had read the paper (BET YOU CAN'T!) you would have seen this fellow was just an old burned out Hip standing next to a GREAT sign about the other MEXICAN invasion and remembering how our VOLS tried to help out at the Alamo.
RACIST KNOCK kind of gives you a stamp that I am sure you don't want. Go with something like, IF YOU ARE CALLING ME A DOPE....ect that works better.
