Ford Invokes Reagan

The U.S. Senate campaign should be an interesting one.
I spoke with Democrat Harold Ford, Junior by satellite today. I asked him about Republican challenger Bob Corker's acceptance speech last night, in which he descriped Ford as a "career politician." Ford didn't blink, instead he called on Corker to stay away from personal attacks, to stick to the issues and invoked - of all people - Ronald Reagan.
When's the last time a Democrat running for the U.S. Senate called on the memory of Ronald Reagan, the President most cherished by conservatives?
Ford says he wants to restore America's "moral authority" in the tradition of Reagan...whom he described as a man who insisted America be the strongest and best country in the world and still maintain the position of being the "envy" of the world.
He closed by calling on the former Chattanooga Mayor to stop the lies and distortions that, Ford said, characterized the end of the Republican primary.
Ford never answered my question about the "career politician" label. I must admit I didn't press him too hard. But I was intrigued by his verbal dexterity. In one sentence, he shifted the focus, calling on an end to personal attacks, invoking Ronald Reagan, and taking a shot at his opponent. Not bad for a 15 second soundbite.
Let's face it, Ford is good at verbal sparring. But Corker is nobody's fool either. Both candidates say they want to debate. I can't wait.

Yes, all viable candidates

Yes, all viable candidates in this election are (were) running as conservatives. I know the press avoids asking tough questions but perhaps when you next talk to Ford, you can ask him about his misstep regarding his NRA ranking.

I think Bob Corker had

I think Bob Corker had better be careful when he starts his smear ads because Harold Ford is one sharp cookie and will not take it like Bryant and Hilleary did. In the primary election, Corker started all the bad campaigning and it was sucessful but it may just backfire if he tries it now!!!!!

Harold Ford is a master speaker and he reminds me of another president in this manner, Bill Clinton. During a debate, I feel that Ford will be tough to handle and debating him on the issues only may be the only Corker can win a debate.

It will be an interesting campaign.

If I remember correctly - in

If I remember correctly - in the beginning, Corker's ads were all about issues. Hilleary and Bryant started the smear campaign right after the debate. Corker had a right to defend himself!

It's time for a non-binding

It's time for a non-binding "None Of The Above" option on Tennessee ballots.

[...] During the run up to

[...] During the run up to the GOP Senate primary, it was a battle for each candidate to portray themselves as the most conservative. That has also trickled over to the Democrat side, with Ford touting his conservative democrat persona. Heck, he’s even evoking Ronald Reagan: Ford says he wants to restore America’s “moral authority” in the tradition of Reagan…whom he described as a man who insisted America be the strongest and best country in the world and still maintain the position of being the “envy” of the world. If you watch the CNN

If you watch the CNN DOCUMENTARY on the Beirut Bombing you soon learn that Reagen was a paper tiger. We let HEZBOLLAH GET AWAY WITH MURDERING 260 OF OUR MARINES....so invoking Reagen doesn't count for much in my book.We do need people in the Congress who won't look the other way over the corruption and lies told by the Bush admnistration...Republicans in Congress have done exactly that...so I cannot support any republicans for Congress...

harold ford, jr. talking

harold ford, jr. talking about "moral fiber?"
How utterly rediculous!
It's kinda reminiscient of his buddy, william clinton, and some members of mr. fords own family.
Must I say more?

BUSH AND THE REPUBLICANS

BUSH AND THE REPUBLICANS CERTAINLY CAN'T TALK ABOUT MORALS.LYING IS IMMORAL

When I listen to the

When I listen to the rhetoric of the Democrat Party, I am left with the distinct conviction that they just don't get it. Their solution to terrorism is to pull back, pronate, and beg the terrorist not to kill us.

Make no mistake about it. These are perilous times. We are faced by an implacable enemy who knows nothing beyond killing Americans and "unbelievers." I am reminded of the scene from the movie "Terminator" when the hero is explaining the mission of the Terminator. The Terminator exists to kill the heroine. That's what he does. That's all he does. He cannot be bargained with; he cannot be negotiated with; he cannot be pleaded with. The Democrats and their leadership just don't get it. Because of that, they are unfit to lead.

Kelvin is full of it.No

Kelvin is full of it.No liberal wants to pull back and beg anything from anybody. We just want to fight when necessary.Iraq wasn't necessary. No Republican is fit to lead who will get us in future unnecessary wars and expend the blood of our young people in a callous fashion.
