Bonuses for Development

Sources at the University of Tennessee tell me that nearly half a million dollars in bonuses are heading to members of UT's Development Department - the fundraising arm of the University.

Dr. John Petersen signed off on the bonuses Monday.

That was the same day, members of the UT Faculty Senate passed a resolution asking the Administration to give priority to maintaining teaching staff and filling vacant positions.

And a day before a group of students urged Dr. Petersen to endorse a petition drive calling on the Governor to use stimulus money to cover the shortfall in state funding.

Dr. Petersen declined to sign the petition. But said he would continue to work with the Governor to improve the University's funding position.

We have calls in to the President for comment regarding the bonuses - which I hear benefits about 200 employees - but so far haven't yet heard from his office.

By the way, Dr. Petersen's 5-year performance review is set for next week. I hear an out of state evaluator will be visiting.
