A Little More Conservative

Knox County Representative Harry Brooks says this new legislative session should be a bit more conservative than past sessions.
And that's because of new House Speaker Kent Williams picks for Committees and Committee Chairs.
"He did what he said he would do," said Brooks regarding Williams selections. "He said he would balance the Committee chairs with Republicans and Democrats."
He and fellow Republican Bill Dunn picked up a couple of top Committee posts.
Dunn is now the Chair of the very powerful Calendar and Rules Committee. Brooks will head up Education.
In fact, Brooks says Knox County lawmakers fared very well in the selections.
Democrat Joe Armstrong will continue his chairmanship of the Health and Human Resources Committee. Fellow Democrat Harry Tindell will chair the Budget Subcommittee.
Others gaining leadership positions included Republicans Stacey Campfield and Frank Nicely.
Campfield, despite his very public opposition to Williams, was given Chair of the Employees Subcommittee. Nicely will head up the General Subcommittee on Agriculture.
Only freshman legislator, Ryan Haynes was left out of the leadership posts.
Brooks says Knox County voters will see a reflection of their votes in the types of legislation that reaches the floor this session. Examples he cited include abortion and guns.
As for the latest tempest regarding Speaker Williams and allegations of sexual harassment, Brooks would only say: "It is what it is. What we need to do is move forward and proceed with the business of governing."
