Liberal Bias?
Interesting study on media bias out of Indiana University. We've heard about the "liberal" bias for so long that many take it for fact.
Maybe it's not. Here's a quote from an article by IU about the study:
"We don't think this is journalists conspiring to favor Republicans. We think they're just so beat up and tired of being accused of a liberal bias that they unknowingly give Republicans the benefit in coverage," said Maria Elizabeth Grabe, who also is a research associate in political science at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. "It's self-censorship that journalists might be imposing on themselves."
Here's the entire story.

I think the quote listed
I think the quote listed above allowed W to get away w/ his neocon agenda. The media failed us during the run-up to Iraq by not pointing out that the previous administration constantly used 9/11, Bin laden, and Iraq in the same sentence while neglecting to mention that Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11. This Orwellian strategy clearly worked as 72% of Americans believed that Iraq was involved in the 9/11 attacks.
One glaring exception is the key member (Dick Cheney) of the neocons, w/ Pearle, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, et al. He still won’t concede that the dubious intelligence that they used to make the case,(the alleged meeting in Prague) was wrong.
Now that newspapers are folding weekly, independent examinations of government actions will be further eroded and we move closer to Orwell’s warning in 1984 becoming a reality.
For years now I’ve thought
Liberal bias goes beyon
Liberal bias goes beyon merely whose face is seen on TV. It extends to the type of question that are asked;. the level of agressiveness on the follow-up; the types of questions that are asked; the underlying premises of the questions that are aksed. You can have a conservative or Republican on the air 24/7, but if the questions are of the type of “have you stopped beating your wife?’ then you still have bias.
Most interviews with conservative start with the premise that Conservative are racists, bigots, homophopes and hate women. Before a conservative has the chance to explain the benefits of indvidual liberty, personal responsibility, limited government and ordered liberty, he first has to overcome the foundational bias that has been laid by the interviewer.
When dealing with the mainstream media, a conservative enters the arena with all the cards stacked against him. The interviewer typically does not believe he is biased and has no compunctions about grilling a conservative in a manner that he would never consider consider a liberal.
The last election and the current coverage of the administration clearly shows that at least the national media give the administration a free pass. They do not question or probe the dangers of the policies. They fully accept the premise that the federal government is the sole wellspring of intelligence and goodness in the land despite mountains of historical evidence to the contrary.
Give the previious performance of big government, does anyone think that national healthcare would would offer anything other than the efficiency of the Postal Service and the compassion of the IRS?
Cable news outlets, including
Cable news outlets, including CNN and Fox News, were not included in their research.
So they researched the news outlets nobody watches.
Obvious Bias
What a joke of a study...
"Cable news outlets, including CNN and Fox News, were not included in their research.

Hahah.. wow.. okay. Fox is still the biggest news network and the most watched, but they didn't bother to research it? CNN and MSNBC are also huge.. What a joke of a study.
