New Jobs Report
New labor numbers out today show an increase of more than 162,000 non-farm jobs across the country. It's the largest monthly jobs gain in three years.
Despite that piece of good news, the overall unemployment rate remains at 9.7 percent.
So how are the two poliltical parties playing the information:
Justin Wilkins, Director of Tennessee's Chapter of Organizing for America, described it this way:
"Today’s jobs numbers are welcome news for a nation just starting to see its economy turn around -- and proof positive that the President’s plans for recovery are working."
Republicans saw it a bit different. Here's part of an e-mail from the National Republican Congressional Committee:
"Democrats have lost their large advantage over Republicans when Americans are asked which party would do a better job with the economy, according to a new national poll," says the NRCC's Communications Director Ken Spain.
The President, speaking in Charlotte told a partisan crowd that his policies helped create new jobs..but noted that 8 million workers are still without employment since the recession began.
President Obama called that "a staggering sum."
